Welcome back to Mets Chat Room.
Another day with a lot of the table. Surprise, surprise: Willie Randolph dropped Carlos Delgado in the order. … An important start for Oliver Perez tonight. … Aaron Heilman is coming off a bad game and is one of the bullpen’s questions. … Encouraging news on Endy Chavez. He could be back soon. … The Dodgers signed David Wells, and the Hefty Lefty will pitch Sunday night.
And, of course, nobody knows what the game will bring us. Talk with you later.

ok its time to Rock and Roll.
John, Let us know if you see Delgado working with HoJo pre-game please! gary and Ron let us know last night, But its good to know in case they forget …
Thanx
ok another reason i dont like delgado. and gotay’s fielding. where was Gotay? why wasnt he covering first and why did delgado of all people try to jog and run him down?
AAAHHHHHHHHH GGGGRRRR
ok i need another beer. Greeat white sharke ale aint doing it..
With Gotay’s speed, did he really need to try to steal third?-JD
JD: Gotay is probably trying to maek up for the lost playing time. Or maybe he thought Bard was traded to the Dodgers.
Did you hear Andrew Jones, he of the truly horrible season, blasting Wickman for his “Wickman’s” bitching about being used in a non-save situation last night.
John…It seems that Randolph had a few words for Gotay after that steal. I read his lips: “what were you doing?”
He’s young..he’ll learn.
I did a poll on the Mets’ first-half MVP and somebody nominated Andruw Jones.-JD
Reyes 2 Los Angeles 0…..He’s something!
JD-do you get a sense that if Pedro does well in his next rehab start and feels good, his next start will be in Atlanta?
JD…why not ask a poll question about whether Castro will be back from the DL this season. yes or no….
Matt: I hope not. They’ve been saying all along five rehab starts and coming back the first week of September. That’s the speculation and I don’t think it’s necessary. If they have three or four games sliced off their lead by next weekend, it will appear a panic move. Let him come back against Cincinnati or the weekend at Shea when they get off the trip.-JD
one heck of a play by Wright there, WOW!
David Wright is making up tonight for his two miscues last night….what defensive gems from Number 5.
Pitch count pretty high for Perez, but a solid/gritty outing by him. He seems to have gotten some velocity back as well from what SNY crew was saying.
you know last night i said wright has struggles at third, but the problem has never been the tuff play you don’t see david wright make a diving stop and throw it in the stands.. it’s because he doesn’t have time to pat his glove or think about what he’s doing..
2 great plays he’ll be #1 on web gems tonight
was it this blog that people were talking the other day about moving wright to 1b?
interesting point by ronny about olly wanting to be olly but trying to conform for Mr. Rick. Rick, let olly wear his 15 pieces of flair, man.
who do you put in for 7 and 8 tonight?
Lets see a little love for Willie and Oliver for trying to save the pen.
Perez is going to start the 7th….hopefully he can get 3 outs fast.
I would put Heilman back in. He’s got to get up on that horse tonight.
Braves DFA’d Wickham. Any guesses who will bestow the Amelia Earhart “Where Will He Land” award to the rotund closer? Here’s a thought: Dump Mota, convert Wick, and watch him silence the Braves when the Mets face ‘em.
Ollie rewards Willie. Good job. A few walks but they didn’t hit many balls hard at all.
Jeff: Great job by Perez tonight. I wouldn’t have given him a chance after a 23-pitch first that he’d go seven shutout innings. Control was off early, but he got it together. This is a very positive development.-JD
I agree JD….do you hear anything about Castro? How he’s feeling?
please get out of this
wow, that could have been ugly
cmon delgado, big time to come through right here
im calling a GS for marlon anderson here….
Well Wagner made us sweat. The pitch to Kent was not a good pitch but Jeff Kent was unable to drive it. Thought he was going to hit a GS…
Now we’re going to be 6 games up on the Phillies.
Good win!
Wags has been makin ‘em hang.
Hey JD,
Your Yankee buddy Peter Abraham had mentioned that the Yanks haven’t signed Edward Salcedo, the Dominican Mega prospect. Gammons thinks he signed for 4.5 million. If not the Yanks coughing up that much cash, was it us???? I’d love for Omar to Get a couple of big time international prospects after picking up a nice stable of relievers in the college/HS draft.
What do you know? What can you find out?
Thanks!
At first I thought Gotay would “disappear for a week,” as Gary put it, when Chavez came back this weekend, most likely on Sunday. Sloppy brought up an interesting point to get rid of Lawrence, but then they’ll have to wait for Monday. Gotay would be the only logical choice unless they want to go an arm short in the bullpen for a few days, which they really have been doing for a while, and DFA Sele. If a long man is needed, make sure Sosa is available by not pitching two innings or on consecutive days.
12 games in a row scoring five runs or more. We are 8-4 in those games, if I remember correctly. Good to see the Braves panicking by removing Wickman from their bullpen. But I don’t wanna see him here, even over Mota. I can’t wait until Los Mets extend that lead to 8 or 9 games when they get phat in Philly. It’s good to know that they have played well against the top competition, so I’m pretty confident about getting out of the NL, but not so much against the AL, especially if it’s the Angels or Red Sox in the World Series.
Intersting problem having nobody to cut!!
Maybe Omar will surprise us all and say bye to Mota. We never thought he DFA FRanco!
Last nite we were listening to Philly post-game show and they were whining about all their injuries. Willie says injuries aren’t an excuse… and we are 6 games up on the team whining.
Willie deservees a lot more love than he gets!
They also came down very hard on Ruiz for his barreling into Giles. Very surprising since they are such homers.
Wonder what the screaming heads on ESPN said about Wickman. They were so high on the Braves on 31 July. Soriano as the closer.. Yum Yum say the offenses around the NL.
All Gotay is doing is shoving doubles down right-handed pitching’s throat while Castillo plays admirably well but is completely physically fragile.
You can’t demote Gotay. Who plays second when Castillo’s knee is acting up? Marlon Anderson? Marlon’s a wonderful pinch-hitter but he’s a butcher at second.
Ok JD….we’re ready for today’s lineup and pre-game information.
Castillo is out for this series with LA
Here is your lineup:
Reyes, .301
Milledge .290
Wright .314
Beltran .271
Conine .266
Delgado .245
Alomar .200
Gotay .340
Hernandez .182
beautiful hit and run in the 3rd for Wright and Beltran
