Welcome back to Mets Chat Room. A lot of spirited conversation already today, which is great. A lot on the table so far:
Where should Delgado hit? Why not bring up Joe Smith now instead of waiting for Sept. 1? Should Willie stay away for Mota? Are the Mets rushing Pedro if he comes back after his next start, which is Monday?
Of course, there’s always the game. Talk with you throughout.-JD

Opps—I meant a white flag, not a red one.
I’ll just continue on my mantra on this bullpen. They’re just not very good and they really need help either from an outside source, or someone (Aaron Heilman are you listening??) someone, to step his game up. This is not a championship calliber bullpen.

Like my dad always told me. Singles win the game. HRs are great but they can be a rally killer. If every guy got up and got a single. you cant stop the carnage… So Green hits a single. well you know what, that single he hit last night was KEY! and the singles Castillo hit were KEY! The smartest thing Delgado did was take all the way. KEITH said early on, that maybe its time Delgado rethought the type of hitter he is now and just go for the short ball. and with his power every so many may line up and over the wall. Look at Wright, he isnt the SLUGGER he was, but he gets on and every so often out the park it goes. like a bullet.
So if green produces singles every at bat, I will never complain … same goes for delgado.. because on a team you need a glove and a bat and if you dont have one thats good then the other needs to be stellar. Ray Ordonez was case in point. his bat sucked. but that glove was platinum!
when he started become mr. error.. that was the end. no bat no glove no job.
Is this a flawed team. Of course it is. Is it a damaged team from injuries. Of Course it is. Is it hurt by down years? Of course… Is it a first place team? It sure is, despite all the problems. Does it have to be great to be champs? No…. See 2006 St Louis Cardinals… A mediocre team wearing the ring.
Is it really unacceptable if this team doesn’t win it all? Of course not. We’ve not had our ace all year. We’ve had our entire OF on the DL. We lost our 2nd basemen, our catcher and 1st baseman had very sub par years. We lost our set up man for the whole year. Our CF slumpred for 3 months. We lost our # 1 bench man for at least half the year. We get to the playoffs, these guys and the manager did their job and more. The playoffs are one big crap shoot and whatever happens, so be it… I’m proud of this group…..
Everyone else would use these excuses for not being in first. This team has been in 1st despite all these and others. I for one, appreciate how far we’ve gone so far, and how far we may go.
Listen to a stankee fan, they use the same excuses 2 years straight. we have had far more injuries and loss of players than they have… go figure
Are you attacking my post as making excuses? If so, you need to read it again. If not, what is your point?
you need to read again buddy ;-]
I was saying that the points you made that could be used as an excuse. are the very points yankee fans use as an excuse for not being in first place. yet, gee we are supposed to be teh far lesser team and we are in first. go figure.
Ok, I didn’t understand your response, that’s why I asked. Time for a 9 or whatever you have in your fridge.
np. Alley Cat amber is pretty good. i think i still have a bottle.
