“Paul Lo Duca”:http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6032 starts his rehab assignment tonight at Single-A Brooklyn. Lo Duca, on the DL with a strained right hamstring, promises he’ll be ready by Monday.
If not, let him rehab some more. Mike DiFelice has played well and it’s not as if the Mets can’t live without him for another day or two.

Hi John –
OT – just back from the library with a novel by Frank DeFord called “The Entitled – A Tale of Modern Baseball”. Have you heard of it?
OK so loDuca is promising monday. I lost count, when is Castro do back? and is Endy coming off soon as well??
I think Endy would do well at 1st ;-p
I still hope that Minaya offers Paulie a one year contract after this season. He’s still very valuable behind the plate and there’s nothing wrong with being a singles/doubles hitter.
Looking at the free agency market for catchers, there’s not much. Many of the catchers are as old or older than LoDuca.
I wonder if Castro is going to be back at all this year. Arthritis in the back sounds pretty painful. My father thinks he might be finished for this year.
I want Lo Duca back, if for nothing else, because he plays with more passion than 8/9ths of the team; AND he isn’t afraid to show it. He’s a leader and about as close to a captain as this team is going to get. If they let him walk, I’ll be disappointed to say the least.
Stephan,
I agree, I said exactly that earlier in the season :-)
If he’s healthy, I want Paul back.
...I just want him batting eight.
Calling all Delgado bashers…Why do you want Paulie back? The team is 7-2 since he’s been put on the DL.
????
what does that have to do with anything? delgado didnt play for 3 or 5 games and we won those. what does that tell you. as soon as he comes back we limp along. Last night game was a prime example. we rallied .. and what happened? there was his chance … sigh
LoDuca has never busted a rally. he has gotten on base or hit a single/double when it was crucial. He is a fine catcher. No Gary Carter but he is a good catcher all the same.
Paul is a more stable player than Delgado has been all season. Yet all everyone keeps saying is hold your breath Carlos will be fine. I refuse to hold my breath.
Hey its a game, we love to watch it, we are all entitled to our opinions.
Sloppy,
Perhaps you want Castro as your full time catcher? Part of the reason the Marlins got rid of him was he could not deal with his owwies.
LoDuca plays thru everything – like Beltran. Perhaps he suffers at the plate, but he comes to play. Plus he is a good defensive catcher.
JD- and yes, DiFelice has done well for us. No need to rush Paul.
Dave
Esactly Mr C. My post was written in response to your Delgado absence post, just to show you how stupid your comment about Delgado’s absence was. You almost caught on to the sarcasm all by yourself.
I want Steve C to be my first string catcher and first baseman and Mike C to be my manager….. (this again is sarcasm fellas) Have a nice dinner…..and if you’re going to Shea, please don’t boo too loud. It really comes thru on the air and the frachise announcers harp on it all year and it makes it harder for Omar to sign people who can get the same money and not get booed in the Midwest and West.
PS: THE PHILLIES LOST AGAIN TODAY>>>>>>
Leasd grows to 5.5 games…......
no sloppy this isnt sarcasm its rudeness.
You must be a transplanted Stankee fan. Real Met fans dont boo the team. ever. Please keep your witless comments to yourself if they are going to be negative.
Thank You.
Sloppy,
Your name calling and negativity really is old.
You have been here a short while and altho you make some good points your constant name calling is not wanted.
There is a way to make your point without belittling the other person.
Please stop.
Dave
Someone please help me out…. The people are unhappy with Delgado and want him to play less or be traded because his skills have markedly deteriated this year. Correct?
The same people want LoDuca re-signed because his skills have markedly deterioriated this year?
Steve C:
Can you honestly say you don’t hear the booing at Shea day in and day out? They are “real Mets fans” The booing is on the site also. Blasting players and the manager every day. Comments that Willie is trying to lose, etc… Who is doing that? Its not Yankee fans.
LGMG – no that isnt the case.
We want Delgado to sit to get better and get over whatever is keeping him from playing at full potential.
And none of us want LoDuca out. Our new blogger Sloppy has a rather odd sense of humor or what he like s to call sarcasm.
Because Delgado is our one true power guy.
He was great last year and this year has issues. He never quite got on track. I would not trade him because 1) $$ 2) I think he will be better next year.
It is almost September, we are in a race. we cannot afford to have our power guy come up and get an out. We have others ( like Alou ) who can do better.
LoDuca has been hurt all year. He is a catcher and so those things happen. We have DiFelice who has done well. Castro had his shot and got hurt again. He is also a defensive liability. He is not an everyday player. Who can/will we get next year who 1) is better than LoDuca 2) can handle NY.
Yes he has his issues. He is a hot head, but his mgr will handle him. At the end of the day he is a team player. He also will hit anywhere in the lineup and not sulk.
Dave
I have never booed the mets or a player. I have booed The other Teams they play, yes..
and I have never said Willie is trying to lose. ever..
And all i ever wanted with Delgado was for him to sit out a few games and rest up and figure out what has been wrong because its frustrating to watch him end a rally. But even with all that .. I HAVE NEVER booed him or the team. I am not that kind of fan.
If you really root for a team, you know they all want to win and they all do the best they can. To hear the same complaints and accusations about them and Willie every day is hard to take from a supporter of a team. I’ll try to calm down, but the criticism of the players and the manager needs to be toned down as well. After all, they can not defend themselves here like we can.
complaints are different from accusations. I have never accused any player or manager of anything but maybe playing injured where it could hurt the team.
other than that all i have done was gripe about the bad year delgado is having and how if it were any other p,ayer he would have been platooned or sat for a bit or checked out for injuries.
and never ever have I or anyone else verbally attacked you.
This is our issue with your comments.
If I see Sloppy tonight, I’m gonna tie up his fingers so he can’t post. He’s actually in my fridge stealing my Magic Hat # 9.
He’s going away next month so you’ll all have peace.
Have a good nite boys and girls. 6 game lead by 10:00, biggest of the year…....
magic hat #9?
not my favorite beer but i have had far worse ;-]
at least you had a microbrew and not a bud in the fridge.
Peace and apologies Steve C. What’s your brew?
I buy Sam Adams now because Bud bought Rolling Rock and closed the plant in Latrobe PA knocking hundreds of guys with no other source of employment to the street. The Sam Adams guys agreed to brew there, ven tho the plant is out of date and saved these guys. There’s really nothing else in that town. So its Red Sox beer but they did something good. They are good guys.
I drink most microbrews. name it I probably drank it. I know what is good and I know what was nasty.
Chicago has that nasty Goosehead crap. yuk.
I have beer of the month sent to the house. ;-]
