ANALYSIS
“We needed to have a game like that against them,’’ said Shawn Green. The Mets were on the verge of seeing their lead in the NL East sliced to 2 1/2 games, but Luis Castillo tied the game with a two-run single in the seventh and Moises Alou – yup, you heard correctly – won it with a homer in the eighth.
NOTEBOOK
-Orlando Hernandez is 3-0 with a 2.72 ERA over his last six starts. The Mets are 6-0 in those games.
-Lastings Milledge has hits in 14 of his last 15 games, going .390 (23-59) in that span.
-Hard as it might seem to believe considering the trouble he got into in the ninth, but Billy Wagner got the save. It was 350 for his career. He hasn’t given up a run in his last 21 innings.
-The Mets are 15-6 in one-run games. Winning the close ones is always a good sign.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Mets can open up a season-high 5 1/2-game lead with a win tomorrow. John Maine vs. Tim Hudson.

Not quite about the lead. They can go up 5.5 on the BRaves, but can’t be any better than 5 up on the Phils (who are 4 back now).
The Braves have yet to lose 2 games in a row this year when Smoltz is followed by Hudson…
