Like last night. If you have a question or a gripe, or just want to ramble, here’s the place. And, as always, make this your Mets chat room. Looking forward to talking with you throughout the game.
By George, I think Jose Reyes heard me last night about his first at-bat!!
He fouled off four two-strike pitches and then lashed a single to start the game.
Great at-bat.
That was a good start. Even though Reyes was already on second I liked that Castillo gave himself up. Getting on the board first against Smoltz is important.-JD

John – Can you hear Tom and Howie on WFAN? They are both talking about how surprised they were to see that video of Aaron last night. They also mentioned how long Barry stayed in the batters box and admired the HR.
Can’t hear the radio from where I sit. Howie and I talked about Aaron today. We both hope Aaron got a call from Willie Mays and changed his mind. Both hate the idea Aaron was paid.-JD

How ‘bout how Barry blew off his own son when he crossed the plate to do that point-to-the-sky thing?
Gil
OK. Walking a .114 hitter on four pitches?
I don’t get it – unless of course, Duque’s trying to get Smoltz tired on the basepaths!
Who's Alou?
Duque looks real sharp through 3….4 k’s!
Gil
Wow!
Another fine at-bat by Jose Reyes. Takes two balls, lines one foul, then then goes the other way for a line drive single.
Selectively aggressive.
Who's Alou?
Castillo is doing the job in the 2 hole…if only Wright or Delgado could have got that run home
Joan in CT.
Personally, I haven’t watched any ‘Barry’ games for years. My choice.

Why is the CF camera shaking? It’s giving me a headache…never noticed a problem before tonight.
JL
the CF camera is shaking tonight bc its actually floating on a barge tonight after all the rain
Joan in CT.
Tom/Howie reporting Pedro went 3 innings, 6 hits, 5 runs.
Also mentioning that El Duque is in long sleeves again tonight…...
Wright looks overwhelmed. Looks like he’s trying to hit everything nine miles.-JD

You know how you always hear from the Mets somehting like “well the past against the braves doesn’t matter b/c it was a different Mets team in ‘99, ‘00 and ‘01…blah blah blah.” I’ll bet you Chipper and smoltz are in the Baves clubhouse putting it in the minds of young guys like Francour and McCann saying “you know what, they cant beat us and they know it….Lets really give put a beating on them.” I’ll bet it still means a lot to those guys even though piazza and letier and franco arent around anymore.
To JL … Sure it does. That’s the attitude the Yankees had for years against the Red Sox. ... Horrible at-bat by Reyes. It began with swinging at garbage on the first pitch.-JD
BH
Good point John, Yanks did have it on the Sox until ‘04….just goes to show you how quickly that can disappear forever.
Memo to David Wright: If you hit .125, or whatever you’re hitting against the Braves, for the next 4 years you will be run out of town at the end of your contract.
Joan in CT.
Thanks for joining us at the game, John – let’s hope Billy does his job and you have a happy clubhouse tonight.

In the words of Robert Plant…
I can breathe again.

I’ll take “Dumb Luck” for $1,000, Alex
...the answer is: The bottom of the ninth of the Mets/Braves game on Aug, 8, 2007.
Wagner was way off on velocity as well as control, I hope that doesn’t happen again.
BH
ack top of the ninth….oh for an edit button!
Gil
What a great team effort.
Seriously.
They showed heart tonight coming back.
Great to see Luis Castillo come through and get his first RBIs as a Met and Moises Alou hit his first HR as a Met at Shea. Ironically, Willie said in his postgame press conference they want to see Alou become more selective and not get himself out. Amen.
And what about Paulie nailing Willie Harris on a steal attempt?
And Billy Wagner – though he made us all sweat the hardest we’ve sweated all year – got it done against two tough hitters and didn’t melt down.
Let’s take the momentum into tomorrow!
That was the most exciting game so far this year, great to see them comeback against these guys. I still think they’re (Braves) totally in the Mets heads, as evident by how tight they play. Castillo has already turned out to be a great addition, great D, love the combo at the top of the order. El Duque looked great til he let that squeazed walk get under his skin. Welcome back Moises and Milledge looks so much better in center. Wags pulled off a Jonny Franco tonight. Wright/ Delgado quit pressing….

Duque is really dealing tonight. Smoltz, too. Picking up that run in the third would have helped.-JD
It’s 1-2 to Milledge. Omar was talking to us before the game and said he likes Milledge’s confidence hitting with two strikes.-JD
Of course, that doesn’t mean a hit every time.-JD
Milledge needs to learn to lay off the sliders away, and the ones in the dirt. Much like Reyes his first two years. Once he does, watch out.
John – does Reyes have free rein to run at will – or is there direction from the dugout?
He pretty much runs on his own. They’ll give him a sign when they don’t want him to run.-JD
Has David Wright ever hit a slider in his entire life???
John – there should be someone up in the bull-pen now – is there?
Nobody throwing in the Mets pen.
Wright looks overwhelmed. Looks like he’s trying to hit everything nine miles.-JD

Terrific win for the Mets. Alou hit the *&^% out of that ball….wow.
Now let’s win the series tomorrow!!
