Manager Willie Randolph is now saying Tuesday for “Paul Lo Duca.”:http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6032
“That’s to re-evaluate him,’’ Randolph said. “That doesn’t mean he’ll play.’’
Lo Duca’s status surfaced as interest today because of Tom Glavine’s second start for 300 tomorrow night. Lo Duca wants to play, but Randolph said, “he’s not close to the 100 percent I want him to be.’’
Randolph said there’s two months left to the season and he doesn’t want to risk Lo Duca blowing out his hamstring and missing another month or more.
As far as Randolph is concerned, catching Glavine is not an issue. “I appreciate him wanting to play,’’ he said. “But, I’m the manager. I have to be smart enough not to react to the will of the player.’‘

Who is “B.R.”?
Willie has the initials “B.R.” inscribed on the side of his cap today. Who is this person?
Gil, BR is in honor of Bill Robinson. Willie on the FAN’s pregame show told how Robinson was a mentor to him early in his career. He was so choked up you could hear it in his voice. It’s as if he was crying and there was a long pause while he composed himself. I didn’t realize that Robinson was such an influence on him. He said his wife went to Robinson’s funeral which I think was today or yesterday, and that he would have gone if he could have.
Ah, got it, JK. Thanks for that.
I actually met both Willie and Bill at a Manhattan dinner back in ‘94 for retired Negro Leaguers.
