“This isn’t going to be good.” – My first thought after hearing Guillermo Mota was going into the game.
This was not a good signing.
LOL …..you and just about every other Met fan. Mota is just plain horrible. Why bring Pedro to face only one batter anyway? Heilman was looking good and I understand bringing in Pedro, but not for just one batter.
I don’t think Feliciano was brought in to face only one batter. But once it was obvious that he didn’t have his control, the right thing was done and someone else was brought in.
While i’m not trying to defend Mota, he did end up getting out of a bases loaded one out jam.
Mota was great for the Mets when they first acquired him. I remember reading that they had statistics that showed that Mota was very effective when he threw more change-ups and was less effective when he threw more fastballs. He has a great change-up. When he was with Cleveland last year they said that he was throwing too many fastballs and they thought if they got him and convinced him to throw more change-ups he would be more successful. It worked like a charm. I wonder if he has gotten away from that? He was dominant for a while last year. Now he’s just lousy. Not awful. But below average.
Mota came in with 2 runners on and 1 out and only allowed 1 run. It wasn’t that bad. I could have been much worse.
When Mota came in, it wasn’t a bases loaded one out jam. There were only two baserunners on. And he failed in his job by allowing the runner to score in a big situation just as he has done so many other times this year.
Taylor, do you know why Mota was great when he started pitching for the Mets last year? For the same reason Bonds is on the verge of breaking Aaron’s record. Mota passed a steroids test when he was with Cleveland and he was a lousy pitcher then. They release him. At least a month passed between the time he was released and his debut with the Mets. As a Met, he pitches great. But he fails a second steroids test. Hmmm, can you connect the dots?
I call him LOUSY. He’s pitching at Shea, a great pitcher’s park, but has a 5.29 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP. That is terrible for a team that wants to win the World Series.
