Tom Glavine gave up one run through six. You knew Willie would pull him after the lead runner got on in the seventh. That’s the way he’s always done things and he wasn’t going to change tonight.
Including tonight, Glavine has a combined five losses and/or no-decisions when the offense gave him two or fewer runs. That’s been key.
And, ahem, well, there’s the bullpen, that has been frequently pointed out this season, and especially in the days leading up to the trade deadline, is in need of help.
Hell of a catch by Lastings Milledge just now to keep the game alive.

Omar should prostrate himself before every Mets fan and beg forgiveness for ever signing Moises Alou….good god that was pathetic.
Oh he should pay Mota’s buyout out of his own pocket too.
John,
You wrote an article on trades. Sitting here brewing over not getting a reliever whether it was a top tier like Codero or a second level like Qualls I’d love to know how many top ten prospects make it to the bigs and then how many actually become super stars. I think Omar went from a gun slinger in his Expos days to overly conservative this year (off season included), I think he’s putting too much value on these “prospects” whether he’s compiled the greatest scouts in baseball they’re not all going to become super stars. Remember generation K they were untouchable.
Heilman pitched well tonight. He gave up the blooper to Hardy and then I believe he got the next batter out then Feliciano came in and plunked Fielder.
They have a decent pen but what its missing is a setup guy they dont have a dominant bridge to Wags. Last year if we made it to the 7th with a lead game over. Bradford/Feliciano 7th, Sanchez/heilman/mota 8th
Feliciano isn’t doing well stepping into the 8th, Mota taken a step back and heilman has been erratic.
I’m still just shocked they couldn’t find a reliever to up grade the pen…...
Feliciano has been very consistent recently in the 7th/8th. As for Omar not wanting to trade any of the prospects, it seems like he just doesn’t want another Kazmir to happen. But regardless, I would’ve given up Humber+anyone else for a good closer or set up guy. Pitching prospects are nice, but we still have Maine and Perez, hopefully we make a deal in the off-season to bring a vet in during the off season to replace Glavine/Duque…we don’t need our pitching staff to be entirely home grown.
