Quote of the Day: Beltran not optimistic

“Hopefully in a couple of days I’ll be back. It’s got to be a miracle for me to play (Thursday).’’ – “Carlos Beltran”:http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6132 on his strained left abdominal muscle.
Beltran was injured taking batting practice before tonight’s game. He was scratched and listed day-to-day. Lastings Milledge played center against the Pirates and figure him there for the next couple of games.

Met outfielders are jinxed.
“A couple of days” in Mets outfield speak means “June of 2009”.
Fire the BP pitcher!!!!!!

To Bren: That’s what the Yankees would do.-JD
This guy is the biggest wuss in the history of MLB. Seriously. A strained abdominal muscle should not cause you to miss two games. And he did it while batting. Give me a break
Funny, Pujols missed about 20 games last year with an abdominal injury. I guess he was just faking it…
Milledge looked very comfortable in Center. More so than the corners.
Yeah, thankfully we haven’t traded Milledge for Randy Johnson and the ghost of Cy Young, yet.
Milledge isnt spanish , so give it time. :-o
(yeah i went there again! )
I think Lastings was originally a CF in the minors before Carlos got here.
Not like we have a choice because he is the only option. His D has needed work since he first came up. He makes the spectacular and then the bonehead play so I am not really that comfortable with him being the everyday CF.
As for Carlos, he earlier had a quad injury and did not sit out 2 months. His offense suffered but you did not hear him complain.

I really don’t know why I read negative comments about Beltran. What do the NY fans want from him? He plays a great centerfield, pulls his weight at the plate. Oh, I know, he’s not a in your face %^*%(*$ like so many other players. He’s unassuming and does his talking on the field.
Oh and for all those who start quoting me statistics, he’s not perfect but I’m glad he’s on the Mets and that we have him for another 4 years.
Why not pick on a player who pulls a muscle while running to first? no, that’s as crass as saying he pulled a muscle while swinging a bat. It happens. Give him a break.
dave – which the forcing of the second double?
He almost had it, and he should have gone for it. even “Keith” said it was close and that he did right for trying.
