The injury news keeps getting worse and worse. Carlos Beltran is out with a strained left abdominal muscle. He was injured in batting practice and is day-to-day.
Lastings Milledge is in center.
John, Tom Glavine is done.. there is no way around it he isn’t fooling batters because he won’t throw a curve and hitters can just sit on that 78 MPH changeup because its not hard to re-act to a 83 MPH fastball
This is why we need a fifth outfielder, teams wins because depth. All teams have injuries or players who slump, Championship teams have the players to compensate for those deficenies. Ledee, Ambres and Anderson aren’t going to cut it for regular use in a playoff run. Gomez should be considered gone for the year (if he makes it back great) and Chavez is looking like the playoffs only. Lastings is our first line of defense, Easley and Anderson are nice utility /bench players. Team needs one more outfielder just in case…..
To Ed: Agreed. I think they can get by with their present rotation. They’ll go with four starters in the playoffs anyway. Another reliever would be nice, but they are tissue paper thin in the outfield. We don’t know how serious this thing is with Beltran, but it is the type of injury that can linger for weeks. Better an outfielder than a second baseman.-JD
Beltran, Alou, Green, Milledge, Chavez, Gomez, Johnson gave us 7 deep, and we still needed more. Seems like the Mets had more depth in the outfield than anyone could have dreamed they’d need.
Seems Grudzielanek has been traded to the Mets. He has been scratched from the lineup today. According to Joe Girardi he´s going to the Mets. Do you know something about this John?
