“Moises Alou”:http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=4517 is supposed to be activated from the DL today. The operative word is “supposed.’’ It hasn’t happened, yet. Will keep you posted.
Any word on who’s going down if Alou and Easley are both activated?
Ambres and… probably either Alomar or Andy Hernandy?
John T
Did he stub his toe on the plane or something?
Taylor
His injury mysteriously got worse in the days and weeks after it happened so who knows?
This pitcher, Snell, going for the Pirates tonight is pretty good. 103 Ks/36 Walks in 127 2/3 innings. 1.198 WHIP. Not an easy game even if it is the Pirates.
JR
All of the pitchers the Mets will face this series are pretty good, especially Gorzelanny tomorrow night. It’s amazing the Pirates suck this bad.

Taylor:
I think we’re in for a pitchers duel tonight. Maine’s stuff matches up well with the free swinging Pirates, and Snell seems to be one of those guys that will just give the Mets fits. The Pirates pen is thinner past Marte, so I’m looking for a nice 12 inning 4-3 game.
They should also be a good matchup for Glavine tomorrow, hopfully the strike zone is a little big and Tommy will sneak his way to 299. Though Gorzelany is tough, and a lefty. Which should help Glavine with the strike zone, actually.
Paul Maholm is also going to present a tough matchup. He’s been a lot better lately than his overall record and ERA indicate. 4-3 rec, 3.375 ERA since June 10th. Perez should be able to handle this one, as long as he doesnt get too amped up against his old team.
Couple of decelt lefties so it looks like Alou will be back just in time… if he stays healthy more than one game, that is. :)

I think the key on who goes down is whether or not Easley acually comes back. If he needs more time with his family then I think they have to keep AH and send down Alomar Jr. I he comes back today, then Ambres and AH, I would think.
JR
Alou is out with “shoulder tendinitis”. Hopefully he’ll be ready Thursday/Friday. Not sure of what year.
NateW
So much for Alou against these lefties. Moises should just retire already. The man is too fragile to be employed.
Mike C
“Not sure of what year”... gold star, JR.
Looks like we’re in a position where it’s just Easley’s empty spot for Ambres, huh?
Could this be to some degree a tactic to not activate Alou until Easley is game-ready and avoid dropping Alomar?
It’d kinda make sense, really.
JR
Thanks Mike! I want to say I can’t believe this, but lets be honest…is anybody shocked?
Good point on Easley. They better make sure he is ready before activating Alou, otherwise you may have two spots who can’t play.
Mike C
I’m nuts. I’m completely nuts?
But how about Milledge Beltran and LoDuca in the outfield and Castro behind the plate against lefties until Alou is back?
Against righties, Anderson Beltran Milledge?
I consider Green a bench bat at this point. A good left-hitting bench bat… but a bench bat.

Lo Duca and Anderson in the OF? Have any extra crack leftover for the rest of us?
AHern is a defensive replacement at best. And Green isn’t as bad as everyone makes him out to be. You can’t field a team of 9 all stars, ask the yankees how that ends up.
NateW
those Pirates lefties are going to have it much easier if Green and Gotay are in there instead of Alou and Easley. Man this sucks, are we get anything out of Alou at all? :-\
JR
It’s not bad. I would also flip Millege and LoDuca.
JR
What do you think it would take to pry one of Colorado’s corner OFs (Holliday or Hawpe)? I don’t want to trade good prospects for crappy veterans, but I could deal losing them to get a quality player back, especially someone who’d be around for awhile.
*****
To JR: It’s going to cost a lot to get Holliday, but that’s not happening. The best bat out there that’s being shopped is Adam Dunn, but he won’t come cheap, either. Most of the others make me yawn. Jermaine Dye is warming after a miserable first half, so he’s interesting.-JD
Mike
To get Holliday or Hawpe you would have to give up a Gomez/Millege and Pelfrey/Humber.
JR
I think I’d send Gomez/Pelfrey for Holliday.
Dep
I think it would even take more to get the Rockies to trade Holliday.
He’s arbitration eligible right now and not a FA until before 2010. that’s 2 more years of control, although he will cost and Boras is his agent.
I would think Maine or Ollie would have to be included for starters.

I gotta put Milledge 6, Green 7, LoDuca 8…
But I dig it otherwise.

Pelfrey doesnt have as much value as we think.
