It’s like Willie won’t even admit you’re on the roster if you’re under thirty. Good Lord.
I’d like to think that they’re giving Valentin one last chance to prove he can contribute before the deadline. What sense does it make to have four second basemen on the roster – only one of whom plays another position at a reasonable big league level?
Thoughts?
I’d rather win games than prove points or chase down wild hunches about whether a dude with one functioning leg can consistently contribute.
Anderson can also play first and an outfield corner. Easley can also play third or an outfield corner or even first in a pinch. Gotay can play short well enough to give Reyes the three rest days he’ll need the rest of the year.
What could you possibly get for Valentin in a trade?
Why would you possibly look to trade for a secondbaseman when you have a young guy tearing it up for average at the position and two versitile journeymen to back him up if he stumbles?
The deadline has nothing to do with it.
It’s Willie ignoring reality.
Not to get too political or anything but some friends of mine came up with the perfect analogy…
Willie runs the show like the President does. What’s actually happened or happening doesn’t matter, he’s convinced of things he decided years ago and…
He just wants to be giving the plan another stretch of time and then another stretch of time and another stretch of time.
Fire and hire some figurehead generals and blame them instead of your plan and then…
Follow the same failing plan.
Valentin was good last year when he had both legs so he’ll somehow be magically good again. Milledge struggles for three games against the best pitching staff in baseball and he’s benched. Gotay’s hitting .350 but he’s got a “hunch” about Valentin.
It’s baffling. Is there no one in the organization to call shenanigans on all of this?
well looks like you all might get your wish with Gotay – doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing Valentin anytime soon…
I’m sorry that a nice guy who is a good player when healthy had to get hurt to do it but…
If you’ve got kids and you own guns, you better hide them behind lock and key or else they’re gonna do something awful.
I feel the same way about Willie and injured or washed-up veterans. If the DL is the only way to “lock” him out from hurting himself, then…
Then have a slow but painless recovery, Valentin, and lets go Mets!
