One thing I can’t understand is the criticism of Tom Glavine he’s being selfish in his pursuit of 300 wins. I don’t see the logic in that charge.
To get 300 he has to win games, and if he wins the team wins. To win he has to stay in the game, and to stay in the game he has to pitch well. He doesn’t have the authority to stay in a game if he’s stinking out the place.
How is that being selfish? It isn’t like he’s a hitter, who can be selfish if he swings for the fences when the situation calls for something else.
Glavine has won 298 games based on being focused on the issue, so I am taking him at his word when he says he’s not letting this distract him.
