Quote of the Day: Randolph disses Franco
-

“If you play, you have to produce. That clubhouse stuff is overrated.’’ – Mets manager Willie Randolph, on Julio Franco, who was designated for assignment last week and yesterday signed with Atlanta.
As he left the Mets, Franco took a parting shot on his lack of playing time.

You characterize this as a “diss”. Before Franco got DFA’ed we never heard a word about any friction between the two. was there something there between the two that was never reported? was franco a subversive personality in the clubhouse? Franco was always described as a class guy so i find it wierd that these are people “dissing” each other now.
To Tom (RE: Randolph)
I don’t know, Tom. You think ``diss’’ is bit harsh. Maybe we can just call it a jab, instead. These things always surface after a guy leaves. The funny thing about this is Willie volunteered the info. That rarely happens. It tells me Willie really didn’t want Franco and that was Omar’s call. Maybe this was a compromise for firing Down. Just a feeling.
I’m not sure if anyone else heard Ed Coleman on WFAN today, but he basically said that Franco’s clubhouse presence and “leadership” were pretty overrated. It sounds like between his production and his attitude he wore out his welcome.
