Julio Franco has re-surfaced, back in Atlanta with the Braves. When the Mets released him Franco said he could still play, and the Braves were the only choice.
Franco will turn 49 next month. He is a 24-year veteran with 2,576 career hits and is a lifetime .298 hitter. With the Mets this season he hit .200 (10-for-50) with one homer.

But he’s 49! ;-p
meanwhile delagdo is 36? and batting 2.40?
yeah yeah he has more homers and more rbis.. but think about it. NOT bad for an OLD guy. you have to give him that much credit.
Now if delgado can give us more hitting like he did last night ten we are good.
ha, franco will drag the bravos to thier graves this year. The braves announcers were estatic in announcing his signing, they must really be in bad shape if they think franco will be ther savior.
Good riddance.
Franco was great back in the day but… he’s hanging around as an active player just to make a “number” and we all know how THAT song goes.
The only team with an actual chance of competing with the Mets for the NL East is choosing to operate with effectively a 24-man roster and that can only mean good things for the Mets.
Fellow Mets fans living in – or visiting – San Diego:
House of Blues, at 1055 5th Ave. in the Gaslamp Quarter is tonight’s unofficial pre-game meal/drinks spot. We’ll be there starting at 5:15 p.m. Join us!
We finally figured out how Franco could help the Mets!!
Steve C. What is your endless rag about Delgado. Please wait until Aug when his numbers might suck again. By the way 2.40 is an impossible bating average. It can’t be higher than 1.000
As for the Braves getting Franco…. GOOD… Its nice to see the opposition weaken itself. But we may be doing the same if we call up a recently released ex Met in Marlon Anderson. He’s probably finished as well.
Good luck to him, I guess?
Still can’t believe Franco had the gall to even think about asking the Mets to release him b/c he was upset over his lack of playing time. Way to be a team player Julio, good riddance.
It’s going to be nice come September when we put the final nail in the coffin that is the Braves season. I can see it now, Mets completing a 3 game sweep of the Braves with Franco striking out on an 96 MPH fastball from Wagner.
