Damion Easley left the team to be with his ill father, Raymond, in Riverside, Calif. The Mets placed him on the bereavement list, which is for a minimum of three days and maximum of seven days.
-Outfielder Chip Ambres was brought up from Triple-A New Orleans to take Easley’s spot on the roster. Ambres, 27, hit .272 (82-301) with 60 runs scored, 18 doubles, 16 home runs, 49 RBI, with 46 walks and 71 strikeouts in 85 games for the Zephyrs.
-Moises Alou went 0-1 today for the Gulf Coast Mets with a walk, hit by pitch, stolen base and run scored. He played seven innings as the designated hitter.
-San Diego starter Jake Peavy is 3-1 with a 3.20 ERAÃ‚Â in seven career starts against the Mets.
-The Mets took early hitting practice today, and new hitting coach Howard Johnson said it would be a regular thing in each road series.
