ANALYSIS
Jorge Sosa gave the Mets six innings in his first start coming off the DL, and he did it after a rocky start. That Sosa lasted that long without any physical problems is the most important thing that came out of the game.
NOTEBOOK
-David Wright has hit in seven straight games, and in 39 of 43 overall.
-Sosa’s double was the first of his career.
-The Mets went 2-for-6 with runners in scoring position. The problem is they didn’t get many guys within sniffing distance of home.
LOOKING AHEAD
Tonight’s starter, Orlando Hernandez (5-4, 3.20 ERA) is 2-0 with a 2.40 ERA lifetime against the Padres.

Just got back from Petco with a group of 10 other Mets fans who also live here in SD, sitting in the lower field boxes, third base side.
By the way, if you’re a Mets fan living or visiting out here, a great pre-game watering hole and pizze place is Basic, located at 10th Ave. and J Street in the Gaslamp Quarter.
As for the game?
Disgraceful.
First and second, none out and we can’t score?
David Wells, who was 2-for-38 at the plate on the season gets a broken bat single with two outs?
Lastings Milledge TWICE throws to the wrong base on balls hit to him that allow runners to move into scoring position?
Jose Valentin is STILL in the lineup – even against a lefty?
Aaron Heilman gives up yet another homer?
Two runners get caught stealing against the team with the worst percentage of throwing out would-be base stealers?
But I’ll say one thing – at least OUR fans are smart.
Here now are the two dumbest comments I’ve EVER heard at a baseball game, both delivered by the ditzy SoCal college-age woman sitting near me:
1)Is the 7th inning stretch before or after the 7th inning?
2)when the Padres had a runner on second base: “Is that guy on first or second base?
