Bases loaded, one out, the Mets down by three. Even a strikeout is better than what Paul Lo Duca just gave the Mets, which was a weak DP grounder. Not hitting with runners in scoring position is supposedly in part what got Rick Down fired.
The bottom line is if you’re a hitter in that situation you have to hit the damn ball in the air to get at least one run. It’s something they teach you in high school. That’s just horrible hitting and it doesn’t matter who the hitting coach is.

green, loduca, and beltran have been even more horrible than the other clowns that call themselves hitters. they swing at crap and take fastballs down the middle. Its actually starting to not be as frustrating, because im actually getting used to it.
But loduca and green have been the real culprits. They swing at pretty much everything, and their obp’s along with their batting avg’s are heading south and fast.
What about D-Wright’s at-bat in the 3rd?
That was worse.
First and second, none out, momentum on our side and Wright takes an 0-2 fastball right down the middle?
Stop guessing and start swinging!

To Gil: You’ll get no argument from me, Wright’s AB in the third was also terrible, and tonight isn’t the first time he’s had one of those.-JD
So why is it that Wright has the at-bat in the 6th we needed him to have in the 3rd? He worked the count to 3-2, fouled off two pitches, then rips a double.
Meanwhile…don’t look now, but Delgado is 2-for-2 with an RBI double and his average is continuing to rise…

To Gil: Could it be that for all practical purposes the game was over in the sixth? And, Delgado will be a positive factor before this is all over. I’m sure of that.-JD
Wow, you make it sound like he did it on purpose…
Seriously, all this over one AB? LoDuca’s a career .465 hitter in that situation, with 147 RBI’s in 142 AB’s. In 2007 he’s batting .400 with 7 RBI’s in 5 AB’s. This is Baseball though, and that means he also fails about 53% of the time….
John: No, the game is never over until the final out is made. But I agree that most of our hitters are again, taking lousy approaches.
Keith pointed out on the telecast, for example, that Beltran is pulling the ball too much.
When you think about it, Beltran had a career year last year, as Valentin enjoyed a resurgence. Wright had a monster year, as did Delgado, while Shawn Green has been on the decline. Maybe we all expected too much from all these guys.
Looks like we may lose our lead before the team shows up in my backyard Monday.
What is the infatuation with Rick Down?????
He gets fired and the Mets hit 2 HRs with the next two batters and you rush in to defend him by citing how they didn’t improve w/RISP.
The Lo Duca sucks in a crucial AB—like he’s done in every AB for a week or more and you rush in to write that Rick Down got fired because the Mets couldn’t hit w/RISP.
Rick Down is gone. Get over it.
Delgado seems to have finally crawled out of that blackhole but Beltran and Lo Duca have jumped in and pulled the dirt in on top of themselves. These tow guys should have been batting 8th and 9th as poorly as they’ve done this month. The have sucked both with and (for 2 games now) without Rick Down. If Lo Duca keeps it up for a while he’ll get quit familiar with cheering his team on from the bench while he ponders his pending free agency.
