To be clear, I did not use the term “timebomb” to describe Lastings Milledge here, but I WAS quoted on MetsBlog.com, and that was accurate. You need to know if I say it I will not back down from it.
The perception of Milledge IS that something could happen with him anytime. Hence, the timebomb reference.
Is that fair? Probably not, but it is there.
For example, he was all peaches and cream in spring training, then came the issue with the rap record. Big deal or not, something happened and the Mets weren’t happy. Nobody made it up … It happened.
Until he goes through a seamless period, there will be those expectations of waiting for the other shoe to drop.
However, and this is important, I am not rooting for something controversial to happen with him, nor do I know anybody covering the Mets that hopes something will happen.
My comments on MetsBlog.com are that I believe the organization is wary and therefore if it were given a great offer might jump on it for that reason.
