Talked with Billy Wagner today about several things, one of them being Jose Reyes. Wagner said Willie Randolph did the right. That was the feeling of the dozen or so players I spoke to. David Wright didn’t want to get dragged into it.
“It was a message to everybody,Ã¢â‚¬â„¢Ã¢â‚¬â„¢ Wagner said. “You canÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t go through the motions; you canÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t think youÃ¢â‚¬â„¢re better than the game. WeÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ve had some of that this year.”
The conversation drifted to the general malaise of the team and Tom Glavine. Wagner said: “We have a guy going for 300 wins and you don’t hear anybody around here saying, `we’ve got to get it for him.’ ”
The Mets haven’t exactly been generous in their support. In four of Glavine’s six losses they gave him six runs total. They also gave him two runs in a no-decision in a game the Mets eventually lost. They’ve given him three tonight.
