Oliver Perez and Jorge Sosa both long-tossed at 150 feet. No word yet on when they’ll go off the mound. Assistant GM John Ricco said Perez’s back is feeling better. No reason to think he won’t be activated when he’s eligible, July 13.
NOTEBOOK
-A week’s worth of games might be enough of a sampling for Lastings Milledge to be brought up.
-In answer to a reader’s question, Ricky Ledee or Shawn Green could be the back-up center fielder in a pinch.
-Carlos Gomez’s surgery went well and they didn’t find anything to think he’ll be out any longer than the six to eight weeks originally thought.

Thank God Ollie and Sosa are feeling better!
Can’t wait to see Ollie pitch after the All Star break.
So John, here’s the million dollar question:
If Carlos Gomez is out for exactly eight weeks and his return date is Aug. 30, would the Mets activate him so he could be eligible for possible post-season play?
What a boon it would be to have both Endy Chavez and Gomez available for defense and speed in the late innings.
Gil, A guy on the DL can be on post season roster no matter when he is activated.
Green in center???? I think for sure Milledge will be at Shea on Thurday.
Thanks, Mel.
I think Newhan is our center fielder. I am so glad they brought him up.
I’m a fan of Green. If I could get a reasonable priced Green jersey, I’d buy it.
I still don’t think he belongs in center. Ever. Unless its a tiny tiny ballpark.
