Let us just say it was advised to him. Willie Randolph said he didn’t want for this to drag on to where he might miss Saturday and Sunday, and with the All-Star break, not play for five days.
This also enables the Mets to make room for Dave Williams on Sunday by optioning Sandy Alomar Jr., back to the 3-A New Orleans.

Hey Willie since you’re giving out advice…how about taking some:
1) Julio Franco is finished as a player and should be dropped accordingly.
2) David Newhan can’t hit the side of a barn even if he’s standing next to it. Send him home and bring up anyone.
3) Let Ruben Gotay play a whole series as the second baseman.
Thanks for letting me vent!
Jeff, Since you think so little of Newhan, who would you pick to come up instead. Johnson was worse when he was here, and there ain’t nothing else to call up down on the farm. The farm probably explains why Franco stays. There’s no room for improvement. I agree with your Gotay point though.
