Great job for Maine tonight….frankly he was even better than his final line…he and Smith got jobbed on that second run.

I thought for sure that when they announced Smoltz was going to miss the game, that Maine would be the replacement. Any word on why Oswalt was picked over Maine?
I thought I heard ESPN say on their 10pm (ET) show that Os was next on the ‘list’ or something like that. Who cares, give Maine a vacation. He deserves it. He is truly the ace of the squad. I am so proud of Maine. And what a drag with this injury ‘bug’ that’s taken over the clubhouse! WTF? And how the hell did Gomez fracture his hand? Damn!

Tony LaRussa thinks driving drunk is a wise decision, so I’m not surprised he didn’t pick the deserving Mets’ ace, Johnny Maine for the NL All-Star team.
Quick question, John:
When you wrote: “Perez is ahead of Sosa. He might get back in the rotation when the second half starts,” did you mean Perez may be back to START the second half’s first game? I mean, it seems a given both will be back in the second half, right?
I meant that Perez was further along than Sosa and would probably be activated first. Willie has not named his starting rotation yet for the second half.

I am glad Maine ain’t at the all star game. This way the rotation ( as it is ) stays put.
He gets a couple of days to recharge and get another 10 in the second half.

I’m partial to pitchers. My all-time favorite baseball player is Sandy Koufax and there are a lot of close runner ups including Bob Gibson, Tom Seaver, Dennis Eckersley and Jim Palmer. These are the old time guys, the ‘leave me alone and get off my mound’ guys. The guys that wanted to own the game – the whole game. I like what I see and hear about John Maine – and I expect his future with the Mets will show us all some very special games.
