If you are, send the young children to bed. They shouldn’t have to see things like this.
John….I turned it off but keep coming back to read the blogs.
This is one time when being a beat baseball writer has to be a drag, huh?
Hang in there!
I just get the feeling that this team just isn’t that good this year. It’s surprising because it’s basically the same core team as last year but it’s just not there and it’s mostly them, some look like there pressing too hard and other look lifeless, too many players are all slumping at once regardless of their reasons. Willie’s a good coach when everythings going smooth but when it’s time for a wake up call it doesn’t happen. Downs hitting approach is awful. Omar’s risk of holding pat in the off season was a risk that hasn’t paid off and now they need too many pieces. Who should they have grabbed Soriano, Suppon or Mulder and Bradford. Who should they go after to make a run Sweeney (KC) (bench/1B/Catcher/OF) Conine (Cincy) (OF/Bench), Otsuka (Tex) and Torres (Pitt)and Buehrle just too much to fill all the holes. They need a front line starter including Pedro, two relievers and a couple bats one for Delgado and one off the bench.
As bad as the Mets are playing, the Phillies and Braves are worse. This reminds me of those old Mets games at the Polo Grounds. Is it Robert G Miller or Robert L Miller now pitching?
i am …wondering WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH MY TEAM JOHN!?!? every aspect of the team is outdoing itself to be as unbearling bad as possible..every single play the mets have on defense seems like an adventure..i wonder what alou is doing right now…....
I’m watching a great game from San Diego. Heath Bell pitched a scoreless top of the ninth and Mike Cameron opened the bottom of the inning with a double.
update to my previous comment, the bases are loaded with none out for kevin kouzmanoff. cameron scores the winning run when miguel olivo drops miguel cabrera’s relay throw from third.
I think a lot of hitting problems would be fixed with a healthy Delgado doing what he has always done.
Last year we had Xman and Cliffy. Both solid bats and X is a righty. Also Valentine got injured and won’t be the same this year. Alou if he stays with these injuries was a bad gamble as a replacement for Cliff.
The only bright side to these injuries is discovering what CarGo can do.
So the questions are: Does Delgado rebound in the second half and can Milledge save us ( can’t believe I said that )?
Or do we seriously start looking for a 1B/OF and break up our projected future team?
As for our manager. Not sure what he can do to right the ship. The pitching has been ok so far with a much better starting 5 than anyone imagined. We do not have a deep bench so what can he do with the lineup? He can move Delgado to 9th but if he does that he loses that player forever. I think he has been walking a fine line and has dropped him as far as he thinks he can without losing Delgado.
