Sandy Alomar’s stay with the Mets doesn’t figure to be long, but at least it won’t be as short as that of Jason Vargas. Alomar gives the Mets a right-handed bat off the bench, but he’s here to protect them when catcher Paul Lo Duca serves his suspension.
A team can’t bring up a player for the minors to fill the void of a suspended player, but having Alomar on the 25-man roster two days before Friday’s hearing gives them a back-up to Ramon Castro.
Don’t be surprised if Alomar is optioned out Sunday to make room for that day’s pitcher. Dave Williams and Phil Humber are among the possibilities.
I asked Willie Randolph if Aaron Sele was a possibility … after a pause, like he was trying to remember who Sele is, he said “it’s possible.’‘

I’ll keep writing it. I dont’ think Randolph really has the ability to manage. Last year they took off and coasted throughout the year. This year, he’s making very suspect decisions and seems insistent on playing guys who aren’t really doing the job.
When management finally let’s Franco go—then I will know they are serious about salvaging the season.
I have no confidence in this group right now. And I’m no fair weather fan. Just stating my feelings.
