“Pedro Martinez”:http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=4875
took a significant step in his rehab today, throwing 50 pitches over three innings in a simulated game. “This is a big day for us,’’ said assistant GM John Ricco.Ricco said the Mets will shut down Martinez for a week to ten days to rest after nine months of hard rehab. From there Martinez might throw a long simulated game or a minor league rehab game.
The Mets have always pointed to the end of July when Martinez might throw in rehab games. He is ahead of schedule, which concerns me. The Mets have always let Martinez dictated to them, but this is a case when a setback might cost him a chance to comeback. Better he comes back too late than too soon.

agreed…it isn’t like the mets are clamoring trying to keep up…we’re treading water right now and a boost from a 100% pedro would be a great boost.
did you get any details on the quality of his pitches???
“The Sky is falling! The Sky is falling!”
I don’t understand how on the biggest day in his rehab, you say you’re concerned. He’s ahead of schedule, that’s something to be excited about. The Mets are not rushing him back and Pedro is not rushing back, but if he feels good, its a good thing, not cause for alarm.
Aside from the fact that if he takes 10 days off and throws another simualted game after that, His first rehab start would be around the 20th, closer to the end of July then it seems. Just saying, don’t be such a negative Nancy.
well to john’s defense, we didn’t rush sanchez either…and look what happened…
btw, where the heck is juan padilla?
Seems like in this case, whether he is rushed or not it is a difficult comeback. Of course he should be focused on coming back at all rather than on coming back so soon. But I think as long as Pedro is doing the right things, listening to the doctors and we don’t have reason to believe he’s not (do we?), he should be fine whether it’s the last week of July or August. Every time I read about Pedro throwing I get giddy and then remind myself there is a chance he wont stay healthy or will be a shell of his former self. I seriously hope for his case that doesn’t happen though, because I think he has higher expectations than anyone else.
I’m still waiting for the scar tissue to tear….did it happen and they just didn’t tell anyone since some people in the media (not John!) would have tried to make it sound like some huge setback? Does it sometimes not tear, I tought it was pretty much a guarantee?
BH,
That is what Darling said a while ago. I wonder the same thing.
