So after staying on top even after an atrocious June, I think that the Mets will open their cupboard and find a case of whoop-ass that has yet to be opened. Because of this and despite the MLB schedule makers’ ‘infinite wisdom’ (and/or disdain toward the Mets) to schedule NINETEEN games in a row pitting the Mets against 6 playoff teams from ‘06, I believe that the Mets will reach 100 wins. And even with Perez and Sosa on the DL, I believe the offense will explode and vault them to a double-digit lead in the NL East before July is done. PS: A big thanks goes out to the MLB schedule makers, as you will have unintentionally induced championship perseverence into the psyche of this year’s New York Mets. Final record: 100-61.
Those 19 straight games vs playoff teams from ‘06 were part of the Mets June schedule (June 5-28). The Mets are the first team in MLB history to be scheduled to play ALL the teams from the previous years’ playoffs. San Diego was the only team not scheduled during this June stretch but the Mets will face them later this summer. Ya think the Mets are hated by some in the ‘Office of MLB Scheduling’? I remember reading an article about the Braves GM (Schuerholz) slammming the Mets for their “deep pockets” a few months back, so it’s no secret that the Mets are the hunted ones on many levels (’$$$ envy’ and being NL East Champs to name a few). Maybe a shot of ‘86s badass attitude could help along the way. (Willie, start kickin some dirt on ump’s shoes, don’t just leave the crazed acts up to Lo D).

A nice lop-sided pair of numbers.
