The Mets can smell sweep. They are up already 1-0 in the first. Getting Mike Pelfrey an early lead has to help.
Oh, one other thing. Oakland 8, Yankees 0, in the second.
So Andy has already been replaced by Villone. Well, they can’t use one of yesterday’s pitchers:
“I wouldn’t trust myself right now, not the way I’m throwing,” Proctor said after the 7-0 loss. “It’s pretty pathetic.”
A little while after he spoke, there was a small fire going just outside the dugout. Proctor was burning some of his equipment, according to an MLB.com report.
Frankly, I didn’t know they allowed open fires on the field at the Stadium.
holy crap pelfrey sucks so much!
why do ppl even think he’s good? i hate this kid…he doesn’t deserve to be in the majors right now…omgosh he sucks so much!
John, I apologize if you already said this, but i’m wondering who would have been sent down for Pelfrey. It would probably be Gotay, not Smith, as they need to keep the people in the bullpen. If Perez can’t go on Tuesday, will someone else be caleld up (Vargas?) with Gotay going down, or will Sele just get the spot start? Thanks.
Same old Pelfrey as we saw earlier this year…not throwing strikes. Hopefully he is heading back to the minors after this start.
I think he has good stuff, but that fastball moves so much it’s probably going to take longer than usual before he is really ready. We have certainly seen our share of stud pitchers emerge later than usual…such as Santana….so no need to panic. I just don’t want to see him up here behind 2-0 on every freaking count.
i want a freaken sweep…take him out…put sele in…sele hasn’t pitched in a while!!!
dont compare him to santana…santana could at least get people out when he was a dud. i wish we could swap pelfrey for kazmir right about now…
he’s getting first pitch strikes alright…i’m watching this on gameday…it seems like after he gets the first strike he keeps trying to paint the corners but he cant…trying to rely on hitters getting themselves out isn’t going to work against the phillies…why is he even toying around??? this is a division rival! do it like beltran and maine damn it! just see ball hit ball…have ball throw ball…go after the freaken hitters! be aggressive and stop being a wuss and trying to pitch around hitters
Tasan, if you’re watching on gameday you aren’t able to really comment on how he is pitching.
He has very little control of where the ball breaks.
that’s depressing to know…if he has very little control of where he’s pumping his fastballs, which he predominately throws…
his fastball isn’t like most people’s though, it’s one of the most active FB’s I’ve ever seen quite frankly, it doesn’t even seem to have a consistent curve to it….which is both good and bad
Why is everyone so quick to call Pelf a wash? Clearly it wasn’t a great start, but it really wasn’t a horrible start either. Everyone seems to be expecting Ace material out of him. He’s a rookie looking at a chance to be the last guy in the rotation. If Trax had given up the same number of runs and walks we’d be excited.
Peterson had him ditch his high rising fastball for a low fastball. He likes his pitchers to pound the lower zone. This cost Pelfrey velocity and command, along with them having him ditch his curve. He was unpolished coming out of college, but not this bad.
Give Peterson and Mike time to adjust to each other. Pelfrey could still be ok. Humber was awful early on, but he has pitched much better of late in NO. He has better command, Pelfrey mor upside.
What’s with using heilman again? What happened to trusting Joe Smith with anything, even when behind he isn’t coming in?
Smith has a 2.90 era, .346 oba against and .328 slugging against. He is not very good against lefties. Mota doesn’t have a great era but his perpherals are ok. feliciano has been there best middle man. Schoeneweis has had blow ups.
Heilman gives up too many dingers and extra base hits. Better whip and oba against than smith, but smith keeps it in the park. And smith should definitely face touch righties. he kills them.
