“Mike Pelfrey”:http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=7807 has done nothing special for the Mets this season. At 0-5, the numbers say so. He alternately hasn’t spotted his fastball or had command of his secondary pitches. Truth is, he probably should be in the minor leagues learning how to pitch.
In looking at Pelfrey, the most important statistic so far of his career is that he has made 10 career starts. Ten. That’s his body of work. Fact is he has a lot to learn and no substantial judgments should be made.
This all adds up to one thing: For those thinking the Mets should package him in a deal at the trade deadline, well, that’s premature and knee-jerk. A huge mistake.
Even if he gets lit up today, it’s way to early to be thinking along those lines.
