If you put together a list of surprise Mets from the first half, “Jorge Sosa”:http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6885 would have to be close to the top of the list. Sosa stabilized the staff when Mike Pelfrey was optioned to the minor leagues.
Sosa, 2-1 with a 3.03 ERA lifetime against the Phillies, starts today against J.A. Happ, who is making his major league debut.
Without those six wins, where might the Mets be?

absolutely, who wudda thunk he would have 6 wins at the break and pitch this well.
He and Maine are the biggest surprises. The starting 5 are really something and as someone said the other day this was the weak link.
Is Maine gonna be our 20 game winner this year?
Yes, I said it first.
Dave
Yes.
What I like about Maine is that he is looking better and better. He’s been mixing more soft stuff and Hitters can’t sit on anything.
The reason he’s been dominant against Phillies is his throwing strikes. Phillies, who are very patient hitters, are always on the rope against Maine.
Jorge Sosa has been a pleasant surprise. He probably will go to the pen in 4 weeks when Pedro returns, but just based on what he’s accomplished thus far, he has paid big dividends for the Mets.
John Maine is like a vintage wine and continues to get better and better as time goes by! Right now, he is as valuable to the team as Jose Reyes and David Wright. He has joined them as one of the core players of the team. All for the bargain price of Kris Benson! The kicker is that El Duque ended up being a Met when we trade the second guy we got with maine in that deal! hee hee
Hey John, I tried emailing you as you asked regarding a Q&A for our site, but I don’t think it’s getting to you. You can email me at joed86@aol.com.
Thanks!!
I think Maine should be part of the National League’s All-Star pitching staff. Let’s see who LaRussa selects. Gosh it sucks to see T.L. managing the NL team.
i’m sorry but cole hamels needs to be taught a lesson…what do you guys think? is there going to be retaliation today?
They can’t hit Hamels so why bother? Just sweep them.
Pedro will bash his head when he comes back.
To Tasan (RE: Hamels)
No retaliation today. Mets up early. No reason to wake up the Phillies. They are slumbering. Let them stay that way. -JD
