The Mets had six hits. That’s nine in two nights. I can crunch numbers all night long that explains the misery, but the bottom line is these guys aren’t hitting and the slump has become the story of the season.
Jose Reyes makes the Mets go, but seems listless. Carlos Beltran and Carlos Delgado are both under performing dramatically. David Wright is having an off-year. The Mets won last season because a lot of guys put it together. Those same guys aren’t doing it this year.
There will be a lot of talk in the next few weeks about picking up a big bat, but one bat won’t do it. The Mets can’t trade for what they need. It has to come from within.
I still have confidence in them, but it stems from their pitching and the overall weakness of the National League.

holy cow! can Scott Schoeneweis even throw decent BP??!?!?!?
the mets already have a less than stellar/depleted bench already intact…not to mention how franco, ledee, and sele have been blackholes on the 25 man roster…the ‘show’ has really been stinking it up…
i’m not going to say it was a bad signing by omar…that would be foolish since this is only his first season…think of beltran and his first as a met…but one thing’s for sure is that he has to go somewhere and as of now the ballclub is not where it should be…maybe like a steve trachsel-like triple A demotion or a stint on the dl, which so many fans have expressed of lately.
i have to say the rest of the pitching staff has been pretty consistent…although i can see why we’re really missing duaner sanchez…btw where the hell is juan padilla? he wasn’t too bad…
oh yeah i just remembered what i’m so disappointed about the show…was that he was sold as a sinker slider pitcher..wtf!!! all he throws are crappy pitches!
seriously this is the big stage…get it together or get out!
i’m not only saying this at the show because several other mets are underperforming…and that doesn’t mean they should get a free pass cuz they’re everyday players or what not…but yeah…
i hate brad thompson…derogative statement against brad thompson here!
I think it’s time the Mets think about shipping Scott Schoeneweis out. He’s just not doing the job. He’s given up hits in 8 of his last 10 appearences. I get really nervous every time they bring him into a game.
So who’s out there that the Mets can pick up to take his place?
Did Schoeneweis sign his ludicrous 3-year, $10.8M contract after bursting into the Mets offices at Shea wearing a mask and holding a gun?
The Mets need to do THREE THINGS immediately:
Release Franco I am tired of hearing what a great leader Franco is. HE IS OLD and cannot get around on a pitch, even something off speed as witnessed last nite.
Put Scott Schoeneweis on the DL. He has something physically wrong with him. I don’t want to hear that he can pitch with this injury. He obviously must be compensating for what ails him. Put him on the DL and get it fixed. We can’t do any worse with him out.
Bat Delgado down in the line up (6) and don’t move him back up every time he gets a hit. He is offering no protection to those behind him. Sure he has ribbies, but in the four hole you almost have no other option than to drive someone in even if it is with an out.
Enough is enough.
hey choo choo. i say sit Delgado. because i am honestly tired of watching and waiting.
people are railing Green But he’s been trying ever since getting off the DL. I was his biggest critic but he has changed his game for the better. and at the moment he’s better than Delgado.
Well the benching Delgado thing is not going to happen so we should get over that idea. Moving him to 6th in the lineup is more realistic and I think they should do it.
Detroit is desperate for bullpen help. Do you think they’d take Schoenweis? I don’t really even want anything significant back for him. Just make him go away.
I’m thinking that Omar has to get another arm for the bullpen. Lidge or Gagne are my choices. I wonder what it would take to get one of those guys?
The team needs more hustle. They are quick to give up these days. Is it the injuries? oh yeah and someone please take the bullseye off Lo Duca.
Three words:
BLOWENWEISS STRIKES AGAIN
This guy is killing me. I have zero understanding as to why Willie puts Blowenweis in that spot. Hello, righty lineup = Smith out of the pen. The kid has been much more effective than Showensuck. After getting ahead in the count and then going 2-2, I knew it was over. Yuck, I still can’t get the bad taste out of my mouth. Time for Suckenweiss to go. Shut him down by placing him on the DL and pray that he can fix his problems by August or September. We are better off with just about anybody.
I echo the Schoeneweis comments, he doesn’t belong on the roster right now. His signing was a mistake at the time that only looks worse with his struggles so far this season. The bottom line yesterday, though, is the team deserves to lose when they can only score once off Todd Wellemeyer. Someone has to take the fall for the offense, so why not Rick Down?
When do the players take the fall?
seems you guys dont blame delgado at all. yet shoenweiss is an issue.
stop having your cake and eating it too. when it comes down to it , its the players fault for sucking… and the managers fault for not “seeing/fixing” it.
the latter part is harder to critique because we dont know what is NOT being done behind closed doors. Maybe will and crew are trying everything they can and the player STILL SUCKS.
so in the end its the player’s fault. It has to be. think about your job, who gets fired first you or your boss?
obviously you didn’t read my comments…no one is off the hook…if anyone it should be the starting pitching…yet another year they have shown promise and disregard for the negative remarks they’ve been getting from the media and just about every sportscaster/host…tell you what…delgado is prob adjusting to life as a dad…and his head is probably not in the game…remember he’s a very streaky guy so he just needs to get on a hot streak…without people flaming him about it…more pressure from us isn’t going to help….
shoenweiss on the other hand definately needs a change of scenary….i’m wondering why that deal wasn’t 2 years instead of 3??? but understand that at that time we had no joe smith…he was an unknown…duaner was iffy in or out…and heilman was spazmatic with his tenacious tendinitis in his elbow…but we’ll see…i definately like how they tied it up last night and pushed it to extras
Believe me, Delgado does not exactly inspire confidence. He is killing this team. I mean its been over two months since he has had a hit with RISP and two outs…WTF?
Get off the damn snide already and start hitting the baseball…see ball and hit what is so hard about that. DW is another one that is pissing me off. Enough with the leg kick and looping upper cut. Somebody(ie; hitting coach) needs to clue David into what drove his past success, drive balls to right with a short compact swing. He is not a power hitter, he is a gap to gap hitter that hits line drives that will go over the fence about 20 times a year. Jose is great, Beltran is back on track, LoDuca is stable and crazier than ever. Valentin is solid. Greenie is giving more than expected, the kid(Gomez) is growing daily. D Wright and Delgado need to pick it up.
Pete, “Keith” said the samething about Dave W. several weeks ago. line drive out the park. so maybe Keith should get the job has batting coach.
That too was suggested by Gary Cohen i think. HEY John D!
if you talk to Keith tell him we want him as batting coach!
;-]
Smith is having a rough patch so he is not reliable either.
Early in the season (April?). Keith did a fantastic job of breaking down DW’s swing. He focused on the fact that David now steps high with his left foot(or kicks)to start his swing, whereas, last year he was using the toe tap..similar to Beltran’s swing. Obviously the toe tap is less intrusive and allows DW to get to the ball quicker. Early in the season he was behind on a lot of fastballs, particularly on the outside of the plate due in part to this “kick”. Anyway, I agree wholeheartedly, Hernandez would be a great hitting coach… if he could just get organized and focused enough to follow through.
Schoeneweis is pitching (if you can call it pitching) with a severed tendon near the bottom of his left hamstring. He completely severed the tendon during drills in March and has been dealing with a lack of stability in the leg ever since. That is why I say he should be put on the DL and get it fixed. He has a 3 yr deal. Wouldn’t the team be better if he got it fixed and came back whole, even if it meant being out the rest of the season?
Also, I am somewhat surprised about the lack of response to my comment of releasing Franco. Does anyone agree that he has got to go?
actually I think Franco has been pulling his weight better than some of the others on the team. considering his age , he’s having a better year than delgado.
also he’s being groomed as a coach or asst manager. And when he gets to the plate i dont have that sick to my stomach feeling , like i do with delgado. because lets face Franco hits singles/doubles/HRs. or moves the runners. and thats all you need him to do.
you are just jealous that at 50 he;s in better shape than you are ;-p
