“You don’t win many games when you get only three hits,’’ Paul Lo Duca said. True enough, which is why tonight’s game is special. Jorge Sosa pitched well after two bad starts, which is a good sign; the bullpen was superb, with Pedro Feliciano, Billy Wagner and Aaron Heilman all pitching big.
After their miserable 4-14 slide to open the month, the Mets are again playing solid ball. And, with Philly and a long road trip coming up, it couldn’t have come at a better time. My confidence level in the Mets is pretty high right now.

Its good your confidence level is high but the offense is still not right. There was no patience at all at the plate, letting Maroth look like Cy Young. He’s not a Joe Blanton and as much as I like Delgado he is a major hole behind Wright. There is no respect anymore by the opponents, shown by no more overshifts. I think moving asley in against lefties should become a regular move so Delgado sits more often. The ESPN team claimed Delgado was going to sit but talked Willie into playing because it was his birthday.
There’s still relievers Willie is afraid to use in important spots like Sele and Schoenweis and Mota (Heilmann looked like he is back ). Last year everyone but the up snd down Heath Bell were trusted. I hope Dave Williams’ rehab goes well so he or Sosa can give us a reliable long man.
The Mets are finally working through the slumps. it was good to see.
Not surprised to see the Mets struggle against a soft-tosser they hadn’t seen; just like last year. The key to last night was a pitching staff that just refused to lose and took advantage of a little luck.
Back in the dark times of early June the Mets lost some games they probably coulda, shoulda won. But bad timing, poor play, bad luck, and dipping confidence conspired against them on a lot of nights. So it was nice to see the team put one in the win column on a night they really had no business winning.
