Sammy Sosa hit his 600th career homer last night, or should I say it was the 600th time he hit a baseball over a wall. How many of those are legit homers? Your guess is as good as mine, but it’s not 600.
If you think they are all legit you’re naive.
I’ve always considered Sosa a one-dimensional player, but I must back off that because even that one dimension is tainted. There’s no way I can respect this record, or the one Barry Bonds is about to set this summer.
When I saw the replay and Sosa doing that ridiculous self-indulgent bunny hop of his out of the batter’s box, I couldn’t help but think how much I’d wish he’d hop back into obscurity. I couldn’t help but think I wish he had stayed away.
