It’s a feeling, but my sense is the Mets believe they can turn it on at will. It’s not overt, but something bubbling beneath the surface. That’s why I asked whether Willie should go off. If he does the results would be temporary. If a team needs something like that it is in trouble.
Either the Mets are good enough or they are not. Right now they are playing like hell for a variety of reasons, including a sense of complacency. That doesn’t mean there isn’t frustration. The frustration is they can’t find the damn switch.
