The positive side was “Carlos Beltran.”:http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6132 He looked comfortable for the first time in about three weeks. He stayed back and used the whole field. If he keeps doing that the homers will come.
Willie Randolph said the other night he wasn’t completely sold on Oliver Perez, that he needed to see consistency. Of Perez’s seven wins, three have been against the Braves and two against the Yankees. He gets big points for that. However, after a 6-3 start, Perez is 1-3. That’s 7-6, and that’s about right for a fifth starter.
It’s time to ease up on the ace talk, me included.
