In 1982, coach Frank Howard had enough of Craig Swan’s complaining to manager George Bamberger about the team’s travel arrangements. Howard picked up Swan with one hand and pinned him against the team bus until he calmed down.
Howard is one of the nicest guys in the game. I loved talking to him when he came to spring training with the Yankees because he had a lot of great stories. Anybody have any Hondo stories or memories?

After that incident, Mets catcher John Stearns called Frank “Hondopolis” becasue his 6’8” 315 lb frame was ‘as big as a city’. Now THAT’S the kind of ‘special instructor’ the Mets could use about now—-instead of that lowlife Henderson (refer to ‘99 playoffs, Game 6 aftermath).
