A blog question inspired by a poster’s earlier comment: If you could put a song to what the Mets are going through right now, what would it be?

Jethro Tull’s
Nothing is easy
http://www.mp3lyrics.org/j/jethro-tull/nothing-is-easy/
Right now it’s Joan Jett’s “I Hate Myself for Loving You.”
this one is for all the ledge jumpers..”Free Fallin” by Tom Petty…
Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue – the Ramones
a met fan never jumps the ledge. so it must be for the stankee fans ;-p
“Everybody Hurts” – REM
“Our Team Our Time”
“Hang Tough” – TESLA
I AM A MET FAN FOR LIFE.
Maybe this song sums it up. Richie Sambora – Hard Times Come Easy. check out song on youtube.com
How to Save a Life by the Fray
“Misery” by Soul Asylum. Particularly the chorus of “Frustrated incorperated”, which seems to perfectly describe the Mets right now.
“April Come She Will” by Simon & Garfunkel
Seriously, I always thought this song should be applied to a baseball season. In this case it fits. Hopefully August willbe where the song and season diverge.
No Woman No Cry, by Bob Marley and the Wailers…just for the “everything’s gonna be alright” part in the middle
Fight For Your Right to Party by the Beastie Boys—- If the Mets want to be the toast of the town, they are gonna have to fight for it—-none of this coasting stuff.
Either “Don’t Stop Believing” – Foreigner
Or
“Hurt” – Johnny Cash
“Who Let the Mets Out?” Lol…just kidding
Don’t Stop Believing by Journey – I have always felt this should the Mets theme song throughout their history.
“Centerfield” by John Fogerty….Put someone else in for Beltran coach…
Stop with the Sopranos references already.
Two come to mind: “No One is To Blame,” Howard Jones, 1986; and “Misery,” The Pharcyde, 2000.
I can agree with Craig’s suggestion; especally since Adrock is a Mets fan himself, dunno about the other two. Or “Don’t Stop Belivin” by Journey which can fit perfectly with what us as fans feel through when rooting for the Mets. Although It’s been used by the White Sox Already. But I’ll stick with that
how about Losing My Religion?
“That Don’t Impress Me Much” by Shania Twain…
Nobody Knows You When You’re Down and Out (by Jimmy Cox)
Many great artists have recorded it, and it suits our team and its current, fickle bandwagon ‘fans’ very well.
When the Mets got swept by the Phillies, I was in a bar watching the highlights, and right as Burrell took Wagner deep, Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” came on. That’s my song of choice for the moment.
How about “Tubthumping” by Chumbawumba. Watching Beltran and Delgado and doling out hundreds of dollars to watch them at Shea lately brings to mind the line “Pissing the night away, pissing the night away”.
“Whipping Post” -Allman Bros
Justin Timberlake- What goes Around… Comes Around.
Everybody Hurts – REM
July – Ocean Colour Scene, never heard the song but the lyrics look like July is what we need the most.
New York Mets: Our Team, Our Time
“Let’s Get Physical” – Olivia Newton John.
It’s time for the team to get loud and angry and ejected from games.
The Theme from M*A*S*H; “Suicide is Painless”
Tug –
that denotes giving up. if you ever saw the original Movie the lyrics are song. and it had to do with John Schuck (the painless dentist) killing himself because he was depressed….
The mets aint giving up..
I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For – U2
(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction- Rolling Stones
“Lift Your Head Up High and Blow Your Brains Out,” The Bloodhound Gang
come on baby “Light My Fire” the Doors….was there in 62 I know losing. Lets stay positive and hope this is just a bump in the road
“Calm” by Maritime
Although the line “We are powerful despite our injuries” makes me think mostly of Cliff Floyd
Definitely, “Fell on Black Days” by Soundgarden
Wake Up – Rage Against the Machine
AC/DC – Highway to Hell
“Black Parade” by My Chemical Romance
I Wanna Be Sedated – The Ramones
(for the fans)
& I’ll 2nd
Wake Up – Rage Against the Machine
(for the team)
“My Best Was Never Good Enough” – Bruce Springsteen. Off the Ghost of Tom Joad CD—solemn, sad, depressing. Kind of like a 3-12 record over the last 15 games.
“Just Once,” Quincy Jones (James Ingram on vocal) – they used to play this on DiamondVision at Shea in ‘82, set to sad baseball footage
“Insane in the Membrane” – because I am losing all sense of sanity at this moment. The losing has to stop. For Phish fans out there…”Tweezer”...key line being “step into the freezer” to describe how cold this lineup is at the moment.
Ooh-oo child, things are gonna get easier
Ooh-oo child, things’ll be brighter
Some day, yeah
We’ll put it together and we’ll get it all done
Some day
When your head is much lighter
Some day, yeah
We’ll walk in the rays of a beautiful sun
Some day
When the world is much brighter
The End, the Doors
and Jesus, HURT is NOT a Johnny Cash song.
All or Nothing—OTOWN (well, at least some parts)
“I’ve had the rest of you now I want the best of
you I don’t care if that’s not fair”
Both Sides Now-Joni Mitchell
if things really go downhill: This is My Now (American Idol)
Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)
Livin’ On A Prayer: Bon Jovi
My Happy Ending: Avril Lavigne
My Happy Ending: Avril Lavigne
Both Sides Now: Joni Mitchell
All or Nothing: OTOWN
Livin’ on a Prayer: Bon Jovi
Against All Odds (Take a Look at me Now)
Drowning: Backstreet Boys
Losing Grip: Avril Lavigne
Us Against the World
Keep Holding On: Avril Lavigne
It’s amazing how many Avril Lavigne songs sum up this period of Mets baseball
Icky Thump – White Stripes
or
MC5 – Kick Out the Jams!
Steve Winwood – Roll With It
Swing out sister: BREAKOUT!
talking heads’ “once in a lifetime”
And you may ask yourself: well…how did I get here?
Letting the days go by…
Regis C. you took my choices. Hurt is actually originally preformed by Nine Inch Nails and I actually prefer it over the Johnny Cash version. Both are good thought.
Don’t Stop Believing
Nah, it’s not “Satisfaction”; it’s “Mother’s Little Helper.” What a drag it is getting old…
A Little Less Conversation, A Little More Action Please… Elvis Presley
We’re Not Gonna Take It (anymore) .. Twisted Sister
They should bring back the 1986 Theme “Lets Go, Mets Go”
“We got the team work to make the dream work…..”
