Before I get to work, I need to wish my dad a Happy Father’s Day. And, the same to all you dads out there. Personally, I think Father’s Day should be the official holiday of Major League Baseball, and this is a day when they should have the double-headers.
I grew up in Cleveland and we used to go to the Indians games in the old Municipal Stadium. Indians and Browns. He once took me to a Browns-Cowboys playoff game. Standing room only in December. I also remember my first Indians game. Against the Orioles. Years later when I covered the Orioles I was able to make a copy of the scorecard from that game for him. Pretty cool actually.
My father is where I got my love of baseball. He was my little league coach. And, what I remember most was he was adamant about getting every kid in the game. No exceptions. Everybody got to play half the game. His idea was that Little League should be fun, and you can’t enjoy the game when you don’t play. I’ll always remember that about him and his sense of fair play.
Thanks dad ….
