Rain delay with the Mets batting in the sixth, down 8-5.
Some impressions so far:
-This is now five straight winless starts for Tom Glavine, and he’s not pitched well in the last two. He comes up empty in his next one and you have to start being concerned. Actually, you might be a little concerned now. I thought this was close to a gimme, thinking Glavine would outpitch Tyler Clippard.
-Outside of David Wright’s RBI single in the first, the Mets’ offense has largely been Ramon Castro and Ruben Gotay homers and Jose Reyes scoring on a balk. The offense is showing no breakout signs.

Well anyone hitting a home run is a good sign at this point. 5 runs is 5 runs. You have to pitch well enough to make that stand.
JR (RE: Offense)
You do. Glavine has to make five runs stand up and he hasn’t. That’s the story of this game.
Last year I thought Glavine was done, but he turned it around in the second half. I´m hoping the same thing happens this year, but I´m not liking what I´m seeing. If this continues, what do you do when Pedro comes back? They´ll end up moving a better pitcher to the pen in deference to Glavine´s status and his quest for 300 wins, but in detriment to the team.

Interesting question on who would leave rotation to make room for Pedro. That’s more than two months away. The guy I would move right now is John Maine. He’s been worse lately than Glavine.
Maine has had 9 quality starts in 13 attempts, and he hasn’t given up more than five runs or eight hits in any of his appearances this year. He’s been more consistent than Glavine and has certainly outpitched him this month.
In other news, Carlos Gomez is now hitting .350 for the month of June.
Before today’s game, Glavine had a higher percentage of quality starts than Maine, 71% to 69%, but essentially they are the same in this department. Glavine has 10 of them this year while Maine has 9. But I don’t think there is any way you can put a pitcher with Glavine’s rep in the bullpen. They won’t do it. Perhaps by the time Pedro comes back, El Duque will be back on the DL anyway. But if not I think it will be Maine who goes there, or whoever besides Glavine is not pitching well at the time.
I think the important thing is to get a read on Pedro by the July 31 deadline. If it looks like he’s coming back, then Sosa becomes trade bait, most likely for an additional bullpen arm or bat off the bench.
Remember when the team was sweating when Glavine was considering signing?
We don’t deserve him. He has had two bad games and we throw him under the bus.
To Benny (RE: Pedro)
No way Sosa should be trade bait. He’s a keeper. And, as far as Pedro is concerned, I don’t think you’ll have a read on him by July 31. You certainly shouldn’t deal a pitcher like Sosa, or anybody else for that matter, to make room for Pedro.
