Most of the pregame talk was about
“Carlos Delgado’s”:http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=5178 hitting slump. It’s gone on a lot longer than anybody thought, which raises the question whether this is the start of a career decline or simply a bad year.
Unless he gets an an unbelievable tear, he won’t hit 30 and drive in over 100. However, he is on pace to hit 25 and drive in 95, numbers many players would take. They just aren’t up to the standards Delgado has set for himself.
With the consistency Delgado has maintained the past decade, this should be viewed as a bad year. If 2008 is like this season, then it’s fair to look at it as a career decline.
