Post-Game Notes: Game #61: Detroit 15, Mets 7
-
- June
- 10
Tom Glavine gave up nine runs for only the fourth time in his career. These things happen. You figured there would be a stretch sometime this summer between wins. It’s now. Four straight starts, but in all fairness he could have won three of them. I’m not worried about Glavine.
NOTEBOOK
-David Wright has homered in four straight games for the first time in his career. He’s riding a 12-game hitting streak.
-Carlos Gomez hit his first career homer, a three-run drive in the sixth.
-Homers by Wright and Gomez give the Mets 201 in interleague play, the most by a National League team.
-Shawn Green will be activated for tomorrow’s game in LA. Ben Johnson was optioned to 3-A New Orleans after today’s game.
-Moises Alou returned to NY to be examined, then will go to Port St. Lucie, Fla., to rehab his strained left quad.

im worried about tom glavine, he looks old and washed up.. scouting report sit fastball spit on the changeup.. Glavine throws his change up for a strike 1 out of 5 times.. its down and out of the strike zone almost every time.. he refuses to throw his curve to keep hitters off balance, and the only thing he cares about right now is his 300th win.. he’s working with smoke and mirrors and im expecting 12 wins and a 4.3 ERA from glavine this year.
4.3 Might be good for him this year.
Glavine’s been solid this entire season, minus an ugly clunker today. He’s gone at least six innings in all but three of his starts. He’s given up three earned runs or less in all but three of his starts. He’s been solid. Today’s game? Was ugly. Every now and then, there is going to be an ugly game like this. But more often than not, Tom’s going to be solid and give his team a great chance to win (like he has done all season long, minus today’s game). I think it’s silly to talk about how he’s washed up and all that jazz. And if you think all he cares about is 300 wins, then you are sadly mistaken.
Great work on the blog, John. I love checking it out each day. And I’m with you; I’m not worried about Glavine.
...some eight hours later I realize I lack basic counting skills. That should read…
Tom has pitched at least six innings in all but TWO of his starts. (Not three). Shame on me, I know better!
4.30 is just 0.12 above NL league average :

Of course Shea is a pitcher’s park so you should be at about 4.00 to be average.
I think Glavine is still better than that. Yeah he got smacked around yesterday but its only 1 game. He went throught a stretch last year where he got hit around pretty good but it didn’t last.
