Oliver Perez is entitled to stink now and then. The thing that concerns me most was Guillermo Mota, and by extension, the bridge leading up to Billy Wagner.
The velocity seems to be there—he seems to be struggling instead with his command. Is this reflective of some type of withdrawal from the juice or the MLB-imposed layoff? Or, does Mota have a psychological barrier, much the way Giambi did when he had to convince himself he could still perform without it?
Benny – I agree with you – those juicers don’t seem to be able to reconnect with their job on the field once the crutches are withdrawn.
Can the Mets trade him? Do you think other teams would be interested in a cheater who can’t pitch well anymore?
Minaya has made some poor choices and they are showing now: Schoenweiss, Mota, Newhan, Franco.
Mota’s preformance so far at AAA and with the Mets is very similar to what he did last year with the Indians.
I guess we’ll see if he can turn it on naturally this year…
