The Mets gave Chan Ho Park his unconditional release today. He was 4-4 with a 5.57 ERA in nine starts for Triple-A New Orleans (AAA). He gave up 34 runs on 64 hits in 51 2/3 innings. Park had some encouraging moments in spring training.
When it was obvious he wasn’t going to beat out Mike Pelfrey, the Mets tried him in relief. That didn’t work and Park surprisingly accepted a minor league assignment. Actually, he accepted two.
With the way pitching is these days, it wouldn’t surprise me if somebody gives him another chance.

With many of the met players, some of their style takes getting used to, but Chan wasnt a player.
Gotay and Gomez are fast but they need to be seasoned or something. There’s just something about them. Gotay has been producing but.. not sure. I have been trying to look past my feelings and see the player. But it aint easy. ;-]
Gomez needs the coaching Jose Reyes got. he needs to sit back on the plate and wait for a pitch..
Part of me wishes something could be worked out with Park. But the realist says good ridence. Our pitching has been good this year and we don’t need him.
His spot is better taken by someone who has a future on this team.

Park was making considerable money wasn’t he? A lot for AAA player who may never help the big club anyway. I would keep him if he was cheap. He had a decent year last year for San Diego but why spend money on him if he’s going to be in the minors all year and you don’t have confidence in him at the major league level?
actually i think Park was a major leaguer forced to the minors. But as dave says: park was taking up a slot better suited for someone that wanted to produce.
I thought Parks contract was for the most part incentive based, with a lower six figure base price and it got kicked higher and higher as he pitched more innings in a Met uniform, ie not so much while with the zephyrs.
