No defending A-Rod …

May
31

Willie Randolph said he never saw such a thing as what happened the other night in Toronto with the A-Rod primal scream. Carlos Beltran said, “it was just a bad, bad play.’’

Ron Darling called it “bush league.’’

Alex Rodriguez is a magnet for this kind of stuff.

I think some of the Blue Jays players are saying he called “mine” like he was calling for the ball? What’s up with him? He’s just desperate for attention, even negative attention.

He’s like my golden retriever. When I won’t throw her the ball she picks up a sock just to get me to chase her around a bit. I guess Arod needs a pat on the head?

Or a swat with the newspaper

    lol exactly Dan!

But A-Rod claims he only said “Hey-Hey”
Is it really that big a deal? I imagine people do stuff like that all the time – the only reason we are talking about it is because this time it worked… I guarantee that if I was rounding second after a pop-up and Derek Jeter was under it, I could scream anything I wanted and it wouldn’t phase him.

Now if it can be confirmed that he did indeed say “Mine” or “I got it”, then that is a different story, but even that is debatable… players do things to deceive the other players all the time. Outfielders fake not seeing the ball in the air on a pop-up to fake out the base runners, they make like they have the ball when it is clearly over their heads.. infielders go through the motions of ground balls when the ball is hit to the outfield, all this for the express purpose of confusing the runners into inducing an out. We see this stuff everyday. How is what A-rod did on offense any different than what those guys do on defense?

Why waste space talking about a YANKEE—-a spoiled brat one at that in a Met’s blog?...to give him the dignity!

    To Jeff (RE: A-Rod)

If you’re a Mets fan, don’t you want to do one of two things? Talk about the Mets or rip a Yankee?

All I can think of is that when Steinbrenners’ son-in-law got into some ‘trouble’ on Valentine’s night, the boss had his lawyers working on removing Swindal from his 20+ year association with anything Yankees within 24 hours.

Now that Alex has flouted his ‘personal lifestyle’ and said that it won’t affect the team (!!) how long will it take George to get rid of him?

I think it was just A-Rod being A-Rod. He’s a jerk who plays hard. He’s a Ty Cobb-Pete Rose-Barry Bonds. He’s not a team player, recognizes no code of ethics but his own. Hence the ball swat in 2004 and the shenanigans the other night. He plays for A-Rod and no one else. I thank my lucky stars the Mets avoided this guy.

I always thought Rose was about winning and doing the team thing. I can’t say that about Bonds and A-Rod is looking more and more that way, too.
