Oliver Perez beat the Braves 11-1 earlier this year at Turner Field, and 3-1 with a 2.89 ERA in four starts against Atlanta while with the Mets.
The Mets have lost two in a row, but Perez isn’t thinking about that.
“This is an important game because it is in the division,’’ Perez said. “But I’m not thinking about the games we lost. In the games I pitched against them I was able to make my pitches. I have to do that again.’’
Here’s what’s going on:
-Depending on how Orlando Hernandez feels from yesterday’s bullpen session, the Mets could announce he’s back in their rotation for this weekend. The thinking now is Friday and to push John Maine back a day.
-Lastings Milledge, on the minor league DL with a strained foot, is still a way off.
-Jose Valentin, on the DL with an ACL tear, hasn’t even started doing any baseball related activities.
-Once Moises Alou is activated from the DL, Carlos Gomez will go down. The Mets like his speed and defense, but Willie Randolph said he needs to play.

Calling Ambiorix Burgos “the human white flag” the other day was mean-spirited and unfair.
Did you bash Burgos the day after the Mets’ comeback win against the Cubs at Shea? He pitched 2 perfect innings on 13 pitches that day, including pitching against the heart of the Cubs’ order. If he gives up any runs then, there’s no comeback.
Are you writing the same harsh words about Scott Schoeneweis, when he’s inserted? Schoeneweis, arguably, has been worse than Burgos and the worst of the Mets relievers.
Did you write similar descriptions of Mike Pelfrey when he was on the roster and pitched worse than any other Mets starter since Jose Lima and Geremi Gonzalez last year?
And is Carlos Delgado’s continued presence – and lack of production – in the cleanup spot also akin to being to Willie Randolph’s raising a white flag in the batting order?
Also, need I remind you that Burgos is only 22, a baseball baby, with plenty of time in his career to improve? Need I remind you that a few years ago people were also disparaging Pedro Feliciano – and look what a standout reliever he developed into.
Folks last year also got on Jose Valentin around this time of year – and look what a find he turned out to be.
Please be consistent in your harsh criticism and apply the same standard to all the Mets.
It’s cool that Ambiroix Burgos’ agent reads this blog
Bryan, funny stuff!
I agree with John here. Amby gets inserted when the game is out of reach. Gil I think Bryan is correct here. You are his agent no?
