Orlando Hernandez had a positive bullpen session today, and depending on how he feels tomorrow, is expected to start this weekend at Florida. Jason Vargas would start against the Marlins if Hernandez doesn’t go.
-Willie Randolph said he’s not concerned with Carlos Delgado’s slump, but admits it has dragged on longer than most. With Delgado not hitting, Randolph thinks pitchers are starting to work Carlos Beltran ahead of him more with curveballs in the hope he’ll bite.
-The weather here is warm and hazy. And, with swamp fires to the south, there’s a lot a haze. Brutal if you have allergies.
-Aaron Heilman has not given up a run in eight of his last nine outings and is 3-0 with a 3.38 ERA since April 22. When he struggled earlier he was getting the ball up and there was concern about his elbow. The elbow concern is gone and Heilman is down in the strikezone.
-Tom Glavine said 300 is creeping into his consciousness more than it was earlier in the season. “I’d like to get it out of the way as soon as possible,” he said.
