Hey folks, Kevin Devaney here at Shea filling in for Johnny D.
The rain has stopped and the tarp is off the field. After nearly three hours of delays, there will be baseball tonight at Shea Stadium.
The Mets and Cubs are scheduled to begin at 10:15 p.m.
It’s been a miserable day and night here at Shea. It began with news of Mets minor leaguer Lino Urdaneta being suspended for failing a drug test and was shadowed by Lastings Milledge’s vulgar rap lyrics.
Tack on a few hours of rain delays and some shoddy internet service and I’m ready to take a nap. The game, however, will likely prevent that.
There was talk before the game that if Tom Glavine were pitching tonight, the game would have been postponned hours ago. He doesn’t like his routine disrupted and, being a 294-game winner, he’s got that kind of pull. Jorge Sosa doesn’t.
Still no word on who’s going to pitch tomorrow. But as the witty Wille Randolph said beforehand “Somebody will.”
Hopefully that somebody’s name doesn’t start with the words “Chan Ho”.
Be back with updates. Staying awake?
