Here’s what’s going on with your team:
-Still waiting on a DL decision on Moises Alou. I see them bringing up lefty Jason Vargas to start Thursday against the Cubs with Alou going on the DL to make room.
-Orlando Hernandez obviously isn’t ready to come off the DL.

John, what is with the Mets aversion to putting guys on the DL? Whether or not Alou will have to be out 8 days or 10 days or a full 15 days isn´t that important. The things I would think about are: Will he benefit from the rest over the long term? and Do we have someone to play OF in his stead (gomez/endy)? and Are we being hurt as a team by playing shorthanded while he´s out of action but still active?
To Dave (RE: DL)
You are absolutely right. They did it last year with Carlos Beltran and Cliff Floyd when they dragged it out, and in Floyd’s case had to put him on the DL anyway.
In this case with Alou, the Mets aren’t playing shorthanded because they brought up Carlos Gomez.
I saw this one coming a few days ago on how this would play out. With the Mets needing a pitcher in just a few days it seemed like the easy move to make. If they didn’t need a starter for Thursday, they would have put Alou on the DL when they brought up Gomez. However, when they do put him on they will retroactive it to the day after the last game Alou played, which would be Saturday.
By the way, where in Spain? A long time ago I got to visit Malaga and Madrid. Have you seen a bullfight? The crowds there are like the ones at Yankee Stadium … out for blood.
John-
Thanks.
I´m in Barcelona—¨the least Spanish city in Spain¨, or ¨the southernmost northern european city¨. It´s a great mix of spanish culture and modern culture/business, situated right on the Mediterranean and only about 2 hours from the mountains. Not bad.
Bullfights are more of a southern Spain tradition now. A lot of this area (along with other parts of the country) are opposed to bullfighting on both moral/ethical and cultural grounds. Bullfighting culture is still big in spain, but mostly in the south.
