In a recent poll asking you to weigh in on the greatest home run hitters of all time, Ruth, Aaron and Bonds were all predictably mentioned. She mentioned Ted Williams and the years he lost in the military.
Not only did Williams spend five years in the service, but he played in Fenway Park, which is difficult for a left pull hitter.

Hi John –
For those interested in baseball history, the late David Halberstam wrote two very good books about some Red Sox/Yankees players.
1. The Summer of ‘49 about the Yankee/Red Sox pennant race.
2. The Team Mates about Dom DiMaggio, Johnny Pesky, Ted Williams and Bobby Doerr.
Here are some of the other MLB players who served in WWII:
Ted Williams
Pee Wee Reese
Hank Greenburg
Johnny Mize
Johnny Pesky
Gil Hodges
Phil Rizzuto
Bill Dickey
Joe DiMaggio
Bob Feller
ok i officially hate pelfrey now. get the f back to AAA now!
he sucks.
does he have a fetish with giving up runs?
does he understand the idea behind not giving up runs in the first inning?
i dont want a panzy in our rotation. bring back park, at least he knows how to keep us close in the first 4 innings of a game.
and how many rookie pitchers do you know that are lights out?
