The Mets continued stockpiling pitchers with the signing of veteran Brian Lawrence yesterday to a minor league contract. The 30-year-old Lawrence, released by Colorado in late April, will report to the Mets’ Port St. Lucie, Fla., complex for extended spring training.
From 2002-2005, Lawrence was one of 19 major league pitchers with at least 40 victories, 800 innings pitched, 120 starts and 70 quality starts with an ERA of 4.50 or lower. The Rockies released Lawrence, April 26, after giving up seven runs on 15 hits in 14 innings.
Lawrence is a reclamation project in that he missed the 2006 season after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder.

New Orleans could use some pitching help, even if it is just temporary. Vargas and Humber have struggled so far, and the pen is an absolute joke….
Anyway, and time-table for Dave Williams? I know his resume isn’t that impressive, but he almost always gave the Mets a chance to win last year. Depth would also be a nice problem to have right about now…
who?
